DAY 1

AUSTRALIA TO HELSINKI, FINLAND

The Spectacular Scandinavia and Northern Lights escorted tour begins today flying from Australia to Helsinki. Tonight will be spent in the air, en-route to Finland.

DAY 2

HELSINKI, FINLAND

On arrival in Finland we will be met by our local tour leader and transferred to our Helsinki hotel.

DAY 3

HELSINKI, FINLAND

This morning we embark on an orientation tour of Helsinki – see the famous Senate Square with the Cathedral, the Market Square, the Uspenski Cathedral, Olympic stadium and much more. The afternoon is at your leisure, you may wish to rest and relax or further discover the city. This evening you have a chance to get to know your fellow travellers at our Welcome Dinner.

DAY 4

HELSINKI, FINLAND & TALLINN, ESTONIA

Enjoy a full-day private excursion to the medieval city of Tallinn in Estonia. We begin with a ferry crossing, then embark on a walking tour to explore the city, which includes stops at the baroque Kadriorg Park, Song Festival Grounds and the seaside district of Pirita. We then visit the Aleksander Nevskij Cathedral and the Dome Church. You may spend some time at leisure in Tallinn before we board the ferry back to Helsinki.

DAY 5

ROVANIEMI, FINLAND

Start the day with a scenic train ride to Rovaniemi. Sit down for a meal in the onboard restaurant and bar, for a full experience on this iconic journey. We arrive in Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland and the ‘official’ hometown of Christmas, where culture, winter activities and fairytales come together.

DAY 6

SINETTA, FINLAND

Start today with a visit to Santa Claus Village, where you have the chance to meet Santa Claus and cross the magical arctic circle. Enjoy a group lunch at the village. Our next stop is Sinetta where we will spend the night in a glass igloo, a true wonder of Finnish Lapland. The igloo village is set in an opening surrounded by pine trees, which creates ideal conditions to see the Northern Lights in a starry night sky. Sleep peacefully as the ‘Aurora Alarm’ searches the skies for you. Once the alarm has signalled, open your eyes to view the glowing night sky from the comfort of your cosy bed!

DAY 7

SAARISELKÄ, FINLAND

We have a relaxing late start to the morning, before we farewell Sinetta. Sit back and take in the scenery in the Finnish countryside, as we make our way to Saariselkä. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the hotel, there’s an indoor pool and several saunas.

SAARISELKÄ, FINLAND

Today we tour a husky farm. The head musher will lead an engaging talk about the life and training of these well known Arctic animals, before taking a husky ride. You will have a chance to take some great photos!

DAY 9

KIRKENES, NORWAY

We farewell Saariselkä this morning and head north. We stop for a delightful visit at a reindeer farm, enjoy a sleigh ride and learn the importance of reindeer in Sámi culture. We also tour the Sámi museum, a beautiful Arctic museum and nature centre that preserves the culture of the Sámi people. Then it’s on to our home for the evening in Kirkenes where we’ll stay in the unique Gamme Cabins.

DAY 10

NORWAY COASTAL VOYAGE

Today we embark on our Norwegian Classic Voyage south-bound on board Hurtigruten. After departing Kirkenes we head due north to Vardø, the oldest town in northern Norway and the eastern-most in the country. This region is where we’ll have the best chance of viewing the spectacular Northern Lights.

DAY 11

HONNINGSVÅG & THE NORTH CAPE, NORWAY

Enjoy magnificent sub-Arctic landscape on our journey towards North Cape, one of the northern most points on the European continent. After brief stops in Havøysund and Hammerfest,we will dock in Tromsø late in the evening in time to experience an optional magical Northern Lights concert at the Arctic cathedral.

DAY 12

LOFOTEN ISLANDS, NORWAY

Cruise through the Lofoten Islands, an archipelago known for its exceptional natural beauty and picturesque fishing villages. Our daylight sailing route through this world-famous region is a highlight for many. After a short stop at the tiny village of Risøyhamn we continue south and through a passage into the narrow Raftsund, flanked by peaks rising 1,000m out of the sea.

DAY 13

THE POLAR CIRCLE AND THE SEVEN SISTERS, NORWAY

Travel along the Helgeland coast dotted with hundreds of tiny islands, fertile farmland and steep granite walls. We cross the Arctic Circle today and celebrate the occasion on deck. The Arctic Circle is rich in local lore with stories including the legend of the Seven Sisters, a picturesque mountain range over 900m high.

DAY 14

TRONDHEIM AND KRISTIANSUND, NORWAY

This morning we have the chance to explore and enjoy the culture, architecture and history of Trondheim. We then continue southbound through the Trondheimfjord and along Trondheimsleia channel, before arriving at Kristiansund, the home of dried fish production. Experience the ship’s open sea crossing towards Molde, known for its breathtaking location, with panoramic views of the snow-clad mountain peaks.

BERGEN, NORWAY

This afternoon we disembark our Hurtigruten ship in Bergen, Norway’s second largest city located on the mountain side overlooking the sea. Your afternoon will be at leisure for you to explore this beautiful city.

BERGEN, NORWAY

Today we enjoy a tour of Bergen, including a drive past St Mary’s Church and Haakon’s Hall, and a walk through the old Hanseatic wharf at Brygge. We also visit Troldhaugen, the home of the composer Edvard Grieg. Later in the afternoon,we take the Fløibanen funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen for magnificent views of Bergen.

DAY 17

OSLO, NORWAY

This morning we depart Bergen on a scenic train journey on the Bergen Railway to Voss. From Voss, we travel by bus through the charming villages and landscapes, towards Gudvangen. Sail through the picturesque World Heritage listed Aulandsfjord and Nærøyfjord – one of the most dramatic fjords in Norway. We then board the legendary Flåm Railway to Myrdal, which offers breathtaking views of the Norweigan fjord landscape. We recommence our journey on the Bergen Railway to Oslo, where we’ll arrive in the evening.

OSLO, NORWAY

This morning we start with an orientation tour of Oslo, which includes the Opera House and Vigeland Sculpture Park. The afternoon is at your leisure, you may wish to rest and relax or further discover this beautiful city.

OSLO, NORWAY

We spend today further exploring Oslo. Admire the views across Oslo from the Holmenkollen Ski jump, and visit the Viking Ship Museum and Kon-tiki Museum. You can spend some time at leisure before we head out for our group farewell dinner.

Today is free to do any last minute shopping or relax and enjoy the hotel facilities before a late afternoon transfer to the airport for our flight home.
